No one will know you
Unless you show them your heart
It’s safe—love again
Until recently I’d never written a haiku — “Love, Again” was the second haiku I wrote.
Haikus amaze me, and many poets inspire me with theirs. Yet, I never felt I could write in such a concise manner.
I was stuck inside due to flood-like rains, so I sat down and made myself practice until I crafted two haikus.
Me counting syllables on my fingers was a laughable sight.
As I share this, I realize haikus symbolize what this poem is about — the thing we don’t try because we believe we can’t do it—counting ourselves out, for fear, before we even start.
Writing a haiku felt impossible. Two years ago, opening my heart — loving again felt impossible, too. But, I was wrong on both counts — thankfully.
What once felt impossible to you? How did you break through?
